Nothing gets you in that holiday mood like seeing the sea slowly fill your view when approaching Brighton. By the time I reached Lagoon Water Sports to guest coach the opener to their 2013 Ladies Evenings, I was more excited than I’ve been in a very long time for the evening ahead. The session had been fully booked way in advanced, so it was clear from the start that the girls were equally enthusiastic!
With two System 2.0s running side by side, the girls got even more water time during this sun blazon evening. With a mixed range of abilities, varied amounts of 2013 water time and a wakeskate in the mix, it proved to be a cool varied group of girls, with an equally varied trick ‘wish list’.
For many, it was a chance to blow off the cobwebs of the winter, revisiting the basics and eliminating bad habits, however there were new tricks too. Rachael managed to banish her precarious board-slide up the box, and learnt to ride away from it switch, Maggie got her dock starts, and Cherry was spinning like a top! Amy addressed her windsurfing stance influence and get the corners much more easily as did Kat with a reviewed cut. Little Sophia looked like she’s never been away and Lei nearly bossed the box on her skate.
As sunny and beautiful as it was, it got pretty chilly and soon time for coffee and cake! I was so impressed with the efforts of these girls and always get psyched with their enthusiasm and determination to improve. As always, a WAW Goodie Bags was up for grabs going to Cherry and the Angriest Squirrel award was given to Rachael, even though they’re all clearly bonkers!
Massive thanks to Lucy and Mel for all their help at the centre and Paul Buttle for taking all wonderful pictures. More can be found on the WAW website and FB page soon.
Lagoon Wake Park will be hosting their Ladies Evenings every Tuesday 6-8pm throughout the season so get booked in here. I’ll be back coaching at their Ladies Day on the 18th May where you can wakeboard and try out all their other watersports too!
